UAE Corporate Tax: Registration Duties for Small Businesses

Many UAE businesses that will owe little or no corporate tax still carry registration and filing duties, and the two obligations are frequently confused.

Registration is separate from liability

Being below a profit threshold or eligible for relief does not remove the duty to register and file. Treat them as two separate questions.

Get the records in order first

Corporate tax filings are built on financial statements. Businesses that never kept formal accounts usually find this, not the tax, is the real work.

  • Move to accrual-basis records if you have not already.
  • Separate owner transactions from business transactions.
  • Keep contracts and invoices that support related-party pricing.

Free zone businesses

Free zone entities have their own qualifying-income rules and still register and file. Confirm your status against the current guidance rather than assuming.

Deadlines

Registration and filing deadlines are tied to your licence and financial year, so check your own dates instead of a general one.

Editorial note
